Looking forward to a lie-in!
Today is the penultimate day of the season for us at Camping le Drennec. We still have campers and people in the Love Shack so it's been worth staying open while we do all the close down jobs. We are still committed, though, to being there in the morning and the evenings for cleaning and check ins. So our days are still ruled by our work here.
Tomorrow is the last get up after that we can have the long awaited lie in !!!
Today is grass seed day. We are scarifying and seeding the patches of grass that are bare after a busy season. I know that our fat pigeons will eat some of it but we will do it again in March and hopefully it will grow enough before we open in April.
The lake is currently being drained. It's really eerie to see. They are doing some repairs to the dam. It should be refilled by February. It's really interesting to see the original contours of the river valley before it was flooded over 45 years ago.
There is an old road that goes all the way across that lake from our beach. You can't quite walk it yet, but I have before - one Christmas many years ago.
So the scarifying and putting the picnic benches away are the last few jobs here, after we have said goodbye to our final clients of the season.
But we have many plans in the pipeline for next year including making an undercover kitchen area for walkers and cyclists who can’t carry much. Or anyone on holiday in a small tent without many facilities of their own. It would have a fridge, a couple of those gas rings and some spare pots and pans and plates etc. It would be up to the campers to do the washing up.
We have done OK in October and a lot of people have been asking me if we are open at October half term. I am almost wondering whether we should next year. A Halloween campsite/scarefest really appeals to me. So, I am thinking about it.
We are usually on holiday now - travelling round Europe. We have spent some lovely times in Italy, Spain, the Alps and south of France. All the memories keep popping up on Facebook. They are great to look back on.
This year of course we are off to Jamaica for a friend's wedding in November. It will be a first for us. First time in the Caribbean, first time all inclusive, first time in a resort!!! To say I am excited is an understatement.
Next week we are back to the UK for some long awaited family and friends time, We have lots already planned: football matches, birthday parties, Halloween and bonfire night, and of course Belper Fair - which I am looking forward to taking the grandchildren to for the first time. I wonder if they will let me take them on the cyclone? The louder you scream the faster you go is always the cry of the operator.
This season has certainly flown by, although there were times in the height of the summer that it seemed never ending.
This winter will whizz by too and then we will be back ready for action, another year older for me. It will the dreaded 60th birthday in February. Oh my aching bones!!!!
