Catching the harvest moon
This year it was the 22nd September. It is when we get an equal amount of dark and light. There was a spectacular harvest moon too, providing light by which farmers can gather their crops in by.
The weather was nice, with sunshine in abundance. It even managed to spread some warmth on the land.
We had quite a few campers who profited from this lovely spell - sitting sunbathing, drinking wine and generally chilling out. We saw some wonderful sunsets over the lake it was magical. The light becomes different in September. Of course, with the clear skies the mornings were very chilly - going down to 2 degrees one morning!! It brought me in mind of being back in a Derbyshire winter.
We have still been busy with camping and glamping. But we had to start taking tents down in the dry. This is particularly important for our canvas bell tents. They are expensive items which we replace every 2 years, but putting one away slightly damp can consign it to the bin the following year.
As we get more aged, it gets physically more difficult each year as the tents are full of beds, mattresses, bedding, quilts, pillows. And that is before we have started on the rugs, sofas and kitchen equipment. It’s a big job and we always end up being completely exhausted afterwards.
We were still getting bookings in the little tents which we have to replace every year as they become brittle being up for a few months. Booking.com has been an eye opener this season and increased our bookings by a lot. We are always still learning you see. Always something new to discover. Mind you, as I reflect on the glamping this year, I have realised how labour intensive it is - setting it up, taking it down, changing the beds. But people do like it and enjoy their holidays, so it's worthwhile.
Now however the weather has changed again, and this weekend was very windy and wet. Luckily we finished taking the small tents down just before it started. That leaves Jacob's hideout and the Love Shack going till the end on the 18th October.
This week doesn’t look too bad weather-wise, so we will be able to finish our jobs. I have bulbs to plant, laundry to finish and put away and some repairs on the snack shack to ensure it's weather proof this winter. My life seems to be ruled by lists at the moment. Hopefully we will get it all done and then things will be easier in the spring when we come to unpack it all again.
So as I am sat here writing this the nights have started to draw in. Christmas has started to appear in the shops!! Change is in the air……
