Late summer - early autumn

And just like that autumn is round the corner.

It's amazing after 7 weeks of being full and very busy the kids go back to school and it's like someone has turned the tap off.

The swallows have left us too. All of them fledged in the end and I presume they are now on their way to sunnier climes. What a feat for those tiny birds - 6000 miles via the Med, Sahara Desert and the tropics until they see Table Mountain, their winter home.

It's not like they were slacking while they were here... Renovating nests and raising chicks, they have a busy old time. No one really knows why they migrate, but I assume they are following the food. Nine chicks left Camping le Drennec this year. Fingers crossed they make it.

Some of our campers have taken amazing photos of the wildlife this year and I am hoping they send me some to put on the website. They include woodpeckers, king fishers, tawny owls, long eared bats, swallows and coypu. All this wildlife living side by side with humans on their holidays. It's beautiful, and one of the reasons I love this place so much.

We do keep the campsite a bit wild round the edges to encourage insects and butterflies. They really do struggle as they lose their habitat. It's so important to live in harmony with nature rather than destroy it.

I do love autumn here though, the weather can surprise us and it’s a lovely quiet time for discovering walks and cycle paths in the area. I love walking the coastal paths too as it’s a good time for the dogs to be able to get on the beaches and have a good run round. The campsite has a very peaceful feel at the moment.

This weekend we are nipping back to the UK for a friend’s wedding - leaving the campsite in the capable hands of Sarah, Helen and Mary. It will be our first days off since May and we are looking forward to getting on the ferry and going to sleep in the cabin!!!

It will be a hectic weekend and we will catch up with lots of friends and family.

When we get back we will begin the process of packing all of the glamping up bit by bit. We still have plenty of reservations and this year we will be open until the 18th October. The loveshack and the Jacobs Hideaway will be available till the end. They will be very cosy for an autumnal break in the countryside.

In September I don’t run the snack shack every night - mostly just at weekends if there is the demand. Apparently my burgers are a legend on the internet. I don’t know where? But the pressure is there to create the ultimate burger every time.

So we are looking forward to Autumn and the different vibe at the campsite and still new campers to meet and greet.
