Beaches!

The beaches are calling.

I have just taken a bit of time out this morning to watch the D-day tributes in Portsmouth. It was very moving, and I feel quite emotional about it. The sacrifices people made and the bravery they showed was incredible.

Whenever we visit the landing sites in Normandy, I do get overwhelmed with what happened. Hearing the stories of the young men and women. It’s so humbling. ” Thank you” is all I can say to them.

My daughters and grandchildren are coming over tomorrow for a week in stark contrast to what was happening 80 years ago in the channel!

So yes, it is our 10-year anniversary party this weekend and we are looking forward to welcoming many guests who have supported us over the years we have been here in Brittany. So, it's full steam ahead. And a week with the kids! I have their buckets and spades all lined up. Oh, and an inflatable crocodile.

My sister and her husband arrive the week after, so we are hoping that the sun keeps shining and we can have some fun. I do love it when family and friends come.

We had a quiet May possibly due to the rubbish weather, maybe people are feeling the cost-of-living pinch, maybe more people took advantage of cheap flights and went in search of the sun. Happily, after plenty of panicky moments we have reservations for the summer and the campers have started to arrive with the sunshine.

It's great to see people relaxing in the sun, enjoying the beach by the sparkling lake, cycling, fishing and walking in the area. It’s great to catch up again with our regular campers who have visited before.

I love giving people ideas for days out and hearing their feedback and enthusiasm when they come back.

We have once again done well in “Pitch Ups” best campsites based on their reviews. Coming second in our area. We had some great reviews last year. Thank you everyone who takes the time to write them. We really do listen and try and act on your suggestions as far as we can. I think, if I was trying to explain it, we would say that we run the campsite for our visitors and want them to have a great holiday experience with us. In business speak we are customer focused.

Every year when we start getting the campsite ready and welcoming our first guests, I have a huge list of things that need to be achieved. I have steadily and slowly worked my way through them - ticking them off. But there are two things that are still outstanding: “The snack shack” and the tennis courts which were damaged in storm Ciaran.

I have put off the snack shack, then when I did finally unlock it, I realised that it hadn’t wintered well in the very wet and stormy weather. So, I have had to do a fair amount of maintenance, painting and cleaning. I want to open on Friday so am cracking on…. now where is my apron……

The tennis courts need a bit more work and I am hoping to get the kids to help a bit next week and anyone else who is around. Hopefully the nets will be up by the following weekend. Anyone for tennis? I have plenty of rackets and balls in the office for people to borrow. Then I think that list is complete no doubt I will start another one…
