The return

Looking forward to the summer

This time next week we will be back in France, on our way back to the campsite from the port of Cherbourg, to the lovely Monts D’Arrée and our serene Lac Du Drennec.

It seems that most of France has had deluges of rain all winter - even in the south. It appears to have broken records for the amount of rainfall, and many places have been flooded.

It must be awful to have your home flooded and I feel for all the people that has happened to this particularly wet winter. It will be interesting to see how we have faired whilst we have been back in the UK and how wet the campsite is. Mind you, this morning in Derbyshire, the birds have started singing again and it is noticeably warmer. There is also a golden orb in the sky which we haven’t seen for a while.

February has been a full-on month culminating in the birth on the 15th of our 4th grandchild, Primrose (or Prim for short). She is obviously very beautiful, has already sat on a horse and is booked to come to France in May!!

The hardest part of coming back to France is leaving family and friends behind. So, this final week before we go is the most difficult for me both emotionally and physically. Not only is there a huge amount of work to do and people to see before we leave next Sunday. I am like a rabbit caught in the headlights trying to catch up on jobs we have delayed, making the most of the weather this week to maintain the garden. It has just been a quagmire since we have been back.

It’s a huge change, different pace of life, people, culture and language. I know what we will have to do when we get there after we have dried the house out, lit the fires and put on electric blankets. The worse is raking leaves and sweeping the drive and paths. Anyway we will get through it, albeit slowly to match our ageing bodies. And be ready to open on April 1st ready for Easter.

The other side of this coin is that we love being in France and running Camping Le Drennec. Andrew is particularly excited as he has bought a new mower. His little red one has lasted 11 years and it's on its last legs. He will be like an excited schoolboy when he is unpacking it. Wonder if I will be allowed to drive this one? Oh, and it has a cup holder. Very special!

We are pleased with the number of bookings coming through - especially on a Sunday. It seems that people sit round on a Sunday evening planning holidays, which lands in my inbox for allocation on a Monday morning a good start to the week. There is always the fear that people won’t come this year for whatever reason, even now.

I hope that you will be thinking of us this last difficult week as we are cleaning, packing and saying goodbye to our winter Derbyshire life. Whilst looking forward to diving headlong into our spring/summer Breton Life….

See you all soon at Camping Le Drennec.
