July is a month of 2 halves...
... a quietish half and then it's full on. I took the opportunity, early in the month, to nip back to the UK for a grandchildren fix. They aren’t coming here till September, and I couldn’t bear to not see them for that long.
I flew home from Nantes with a friend. I really don’t like flying but managed to remain calm even though the sky was a bit bumpy. It was worth it of course.
I managed a small local festival with girlfriends, a curry, a horse ride and a Sunday lunch that I didn’t cook. With copious amounts of granny cuddles and adventures.
I need to be brave enough to keep flying so that I can go back regularly to see the babies. We do have video calls which is fun but it’s not the same as being there.
The weather has been a bit inclement, and we were beginning to wonder when the summer would start. It has now and we are mostly full for the next few weeks. This is our busiest time, and we are full on: cleaning glamping tents, snack shack, toilets and bookings. We haven’t got the most up to date booking system, so it's me with a pen and a furrowed brow each morning trying to get all the arrivals to fit. It mostly works!!
We always have a few extra spaces for walk on without reservation, 1 night only!! I will always find people a small corner who are cycling or walking and arrive looking very sweaty and in need of a cool beer. These clients always appreciate my frying skills in the snack shack which is now open every night until the end of August. Serving delicious snack shack burgers, chips, sausages, and panini.
It’s been a year now since we had all the fires locally and the very hot temperatures. If you remember, we had to evacuate the campsite. What’s great is to see people back who were evacuated last year. We had a surprise though as channel 2 came and interviewed us and some campers. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I had another few seconds of fame on the national news!!!!
To be honest the weather here has been a mixed bag. But I would rather have it like this than 40 plus degrees. I am feeling very fortunate that we aren’t in another heat wave unlike the Southern part of Europe.
And finally, remember the caravan I had promised to have ready last year? Well, it's finished, sited and ready to go... Online it's called Jacob's hideout. I am very pleased with finished product and hope we get some customers this year trying it out. It's in such a lovely peaceful spot.
